Recently my school celebrated career day, and it got me thinking about how I can make careers relevant in music class. The truth is, many of my students won’t become professional musicians, BUT I want to make sure they have a chance to at least explore the idea of a career in music. Check out some fun projects that achieve this objective!
Careers in Music – Music Research Project

In this project students will edit their own copy of a google slides presentation to research a music career of their choosing. They will research and explain what they would need to do in the career in terms of skills, education, responsibilities, finding mentors, finding a job, and earning a salary. This project is a great way for students to explore music jobs that appeal to them!
Create Your Own Music Business – Project for Google Slides

In this fun music project, students edit their own copy of a pre-made google slides presentation to design their own music business. Students will identify their strengths and interests to design and plan a business. This project is intended to get students excited about their own potential as future entrepreneurs.
Psychology of Music – Research Project for Google Slides

This project is perfect for your future music therapists! In this project, students will edit their own copy of a pre-made google slides presentation to research several topics within the field of music psychology, including music’s influence on the brain, the benefits of listening to music, nature vs. nurture in musical ability, nature vs. nurture in musical preference, music therapy, and music psychology resources.
Careers in Theater – Research Project for Google Slides

This one is for your musical theater buffs! In this project students will edit their own copy of a google slides presentation to research the theater career of their choosing. They will research and explain what they will need to know in terms of skills, education, responsibilities, finding mentors, finding a job, and earning a salary. It is a great way for students to begin thinking seriously about a career in the theater.
Playlist for my Future – Music Project

Some of my students have a plan or a dream that exists outside the realm of any musical field. This project is a perfect way for students with NO professional music aspirations to consider how they can express their goals through music.
In this project, students create plans for their future and choose a song and image to represent each of these plans. Then, they compile each of these songs into a “playlist for their future.” To demonstrate their work, students will edit their own copy of a pre-made google slides presentation.
